Beatriz Milhazes
Born in 1960 in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. After studying public communication at Faculdades Integradas Hélios Alonso University (1978-1981) and attending Escola de artes visuais do Parque Lage (1980-1982), Beatriz Milhazes adopted a method of collaging paint with highly saturated colors and geometric abstraction that becomes her signature technique.
Her first major museum exhibition was organized in 2001 by Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, England. In 2003 the artist represented Brazil at the Venice Biennale and in 2009 a large-scale retrospective was mounted by the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in Paris.
Beatriz lives and works in Rio de Janeiro.
